With a few easy routines, your washed oak bench keeps its soft, rustic character and the textured veneer protected day to day:

• Weekly dusting – Give the wood veneer top a quick weekly dust with a dry microfibre cloth to clear away crumbs and light debris
• Soft protection – If you’ve got busy kids or pets, use a couple of soft throws or cushions to help shield the flat top
• Spill response – If food or drink goes flying during a lively meal, blot the surface dry straightaway with a clean cloth and avoid rubbing
• Gentle cleaning – For sticky patches, use a highly diluted drop of mild washing‑up liquid in warm water. Wring your cloth until barely damp and wipe gently with the grain
• Avoid harsh cleaners – Skip furniture polish, aerosol sprays, strong degreasers and abrasive pads
• Occasional conditioning – A natural beeswax or specialist veneer care wax every 6 to 9 months keeps the washed oak hydrated and feeling tactile
