Dust off your furniture mood boards and prepare for a fresh wave of design inspiration (and maybe a few laughs) because the much-loved Interior Design Masters with Alan Carr is back for its sixth series! Mark your calendars for Thursday 10th April 2025 at 8pm on BBC One and BBC iPlayer.
For those unfamiliar with the show (where have you been?!), the hilarious Alan Carr welcomes 10 talented but novice designers, all vying for their big break in the competitive world of commercial interior design. Over eight weeks, we’ll witness their creativity, problem-solving skills and occasional design dilemmas as they tackle a variety of exciting and challenging spaces.
This year, the stakes are higher than ever. The winner of series six will have the incredible opportunity to team up with a leading UK retailer to create their very own collection of homewares. Imagine seeing your designs gracing store shelves, it’s a life-changing prize.
Returning to cast her expert eye over the transformations is the esteemed design expert and former editor of Elle Decoration, Michelle Ogundehin. Together, Alan and Michelle will guide, critique and ultimately decide who has what it takes to become the next interior design star.
Alan Carr himself is clearly thrilled about the show’s return, stating: “To get your show recommissioned is always a lovely thing. Whether Interior Design Masters makes you giggle on the settee or propels you up a stepladder with a drill in hand to give your room some much needed TLC, we hope we put a smile on your face.”
Michelle Ogundehin echoes this excitement, saying: “An abundance of reasons to celebrate! I could not be more pleased that Interior Design Masters will be coming back. This new partnership promises an incredible opportunity to our series 6 winner. I cannot wait to see their designs in stores across the UK.”
This new series promises to push the boundaries with its locations and design briefs. Alan Carr teased some of the exciting challenges, including luxury retirement homes, comedy clubs and even a room for rescue dogs at Battersea Dogs Home (cue heartwarming moments). He also hinted at some “dubious design choices” and “what were they thinking moments?!” for those who love a bit of drama.
Interestingly, Alan shared that one designer this series was particularly inspiring when it came to resourcing, recycling and repurposing materials in incredibly creative ways, even making obscure items look like high-end designer pieces. This highlights the show’s ability to not only entertain but also to inspire viewers to think differently about their own spaces and the potential of pre-loved items.
For anyone dreaming of a career in interior design, Alan Carr offers this advice: “Be daring, be bold – because if it works just think how amazing you’ll feel, and if it doesn’t work, it’ll make great telly.”
And for those who are feeling particularly inspired, casting is now open for series seven, with filming set to begin in Summer 2025. Applications are open until 13th April 2025. If you think you have what it takes, or know someone who does, head over to the BBC Shows and Tours website to apply.
So, set your reminders, grab the popcorn and get ready for your weekly dose of design inspiration (and Alan Carr’s brilliant one-liners) when Interior Design Masters returns on Thursday 10th April at 8pm on BBC One and BBC iPlayer. You won’t want to miss it!
