Venice is made to handle daily life, but a few easy habits will keep the velvet plush and the swivel base moving smoothly:

• Vacuum gently with a soft upholstery brush to lift dust and crumbs without disturbing the velvet’s pile
• Wipe the base with warm, soapy water on a soft cloth, then dry straight away to avoid water spots and keep the metal gleaming
• Blot spills quickly with a clean, dry cloth. Dab, never rub, as it can flatten the velvet’s texture
• Avoid strong sunlight by placing your stools away from direct rays
• Check the swivel now and then. If it feels stiff, wipe the cylinder clean and move the height lever a few times to keep things smooth
